Spicy Edamame

Here's a wonderful edamame recipe from my friends Yasu & Elizabeth Kizaki, owners of Sushi Den & Izakaya Den in Denver.

I've had the pleasure of meeting both of them and if you live in the Denver Area or happen to be visiting, you must visit one of their restaurants. Sushi Den is widely regarded as the best Sushi in Denver, and its sister restaurant, Izakaya Den, is just as fabulous. Enjoy!

Spicy Edamame
  • 1 lb. edamame (shelled or not, your preference)
  • 3 lg. cloves garlic
  • Toasted sesame oil (toasted is very important!)
  • Red chili flakes (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon, depending on how spicy you like it)
  • Sea salt (about 2 teaspoons)
Serve warm, room temperature or even cold. Can be kept in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator up to two days.
    Recipe:
    • Crush garlic in garlic press and place in shot glass.
    • Add toasted sesame oil to fill shot glass.
    • Place edamame in boiling water for 2-3 minutes (3 max); drain.
    • Pour oil mixture over edamame.
    • Add chili flakes and sea salt to taste.
    • Mix well.
Note: Toasted Sesame Oil can be purchased in the ethnic food aisle of most grocery stores.
